Learning Outcome #5

Synthesize the application of anthropological data and theory to solve complex problems

Anthropological data a synthesis (combination) of knowledge in the form of theory. This is a creation of your own knowledge and thinking with theory to back it up. They are valuable tools to use when examining complex social problems within lived in human or historical experiences/ cultural systems.

Reflection

Using synthesis further amplifies the application of anthropological data and theory to solve complex problems. In Research Prep in Anthropology, we used synthesis to further answer our research question of choice. When synthesizing my project (Inadequate Nutrition within Children in South America, Dejah's e-Portfolio: Anthropology Projects), it helped anthropologist like me to analyze various sources and data to come up with an overall outcome of how to combat the research question. I start to see certain trends and inferences authors come up with that were relevant.

To demonstrate my ability to apply appropriate methodological skills, I examined the issue of inadequate nutrition among children in South America through an anthropological lens. I utilized a combination of qualitative and quantitative research methods, including the analysis of research articles, demographic data, and ethnographic case studies, to better understand the social, economic, and cultural factors influencing childhood nutrition.

Applying synthesis within future anthropological studies will further push my abilities to figure out theories and complex problems. I can infer complex problems via research based off of the configuration of synthesis.
